The Rhythm Of The Night.

On May 13, in Portugal, while some longed for the Eurovision Song Contest, were feeling nervous about football matches and were waiting for the Pope's message in Fatima,in Madrid, more than 16,000 pilgrims were traveling through time.
At 6pm the doors of the arena opened for the deejays Jumper Brothers to set the tone for more than 6 hours of partying with Show Me Love (Robin S), Free (Ultra Naté), Beachball (Nalin & Kane) culminating with the countdown to the beginning of Love The 90s with the Spanish OBK. There could not be a time tunnel as perfect as this, where we had the opportunity to enter the Guinness Book of Records with Whigfield's Saturday Night, in a place where everyone danced the typical choreography of the summer of '94. Jenny Berggren, Ace Of Base, showed us, with Beautiful Life, that over 20 years later life continues to be beautiful and joyful and that everyone finally understood the story of All That She Wants and saw The Sign, which explained the more 23 million albums sold from the multi-platinum album Happy Nation in 93/94 (also in the Guinness Book Of Records).
Between europop and eurodance, when we heard Diggy Boog Diggy Diggy Boom Diggy Bang we felt we were listening to the compilation DanceMania, in which Ice Mc shone with his typical Italo-disco sound. Australian Tina Cousins brought back memories with Pray and Mysterious Times, her great collaboration with German Sash !, and the Brazilian Corona starred in one of the funniest moments when she admitted to be speaking "portuñol" (mixture of portuguese and spanish), mixing her music with Boom Boom Boom of Outhere Brothers and to have one of the biggest interactions with the audience with the sound of The Rhythm Of The Night. Between the performances of the guest groups, there was time for the duo of deejays, with the help of fire, lasers, colorful screens and rain of confetti, to play  songs that filled the dance floors during the decade with Haddaway (What Is Love ), Gala (Let a Boy Cry), Faithless (Insomnia) and Kadoc (The Night Train), pick up Nirvana and Bon Jovi from the playlist and pay homage to Robert Miles, making it a non-stop party! Finally, the eurodance / euro rap duos Snap! made many feet jump with Penny Ford's powerful voice in The Power and with the classic Rhythm Is a Dancer, in addition to rapper Ya Kid K, Technotronic's original voice that set the crowd singing all in one voice Pump Up The Jam and the Dutch 2 Unlimited who showed that the 90's generation has no limit to the joy they were feeling while traveling listening to No Limit and Twilight Zone.
In short, if you ask if it is worth this trip, we conclude with a big smile that YES! This Time Machine is able to put an entire generation nostalgic about a recent decade, in which with so much evolution, still knows the connection between a pencil and a cassette, remembers what it was to make a mixtape with love and, above all, knows has paved the way for a culture of pop and dance music that is now felt all over the world. What do we do now? We watch the best moments and count the days that are missing for the next trips! More videos on Youtube, Sapo Videos and photos on Facebook and Instagram of the blog!

...Sometimes, you don't even have the time to realize
what is happening to your life,
that it has already happened...
the world moves too fast...
let's recapture the essence of time.
(Robert Miles)

R.I.P. Robert Miles!

On May 9, 2017 Robert Miles passed away in Ibiza, the Italian-Swiss producer who revolutionized dance music in the mid-90s with his dream house sound, later called dream trance in which the strong beats are accompanied by piano. It was with Children (5 million singles sold) that he achieved this feat when it broke the charts around the world, with an impressive number 1 in more than twelve countries and more than 13 weeks in number 1 in the Eurochart Top 100 and influenced the electronic productions in the years that followed.
In addition, the story behind his electronic adventure, which led to the creation of Children and the album Dreamland, which contains Fable and One & One (feat. Maria Nayler), is very interesting and makes him not only a special musician but also a conscious deejay about what was(is) happening in the club/rave culture (at that time). Due to the growing number of deaths on Saturday nights when more and more discos were being opened with alcoholic excesses (and not only that), the Italian police even indicated these events as a scourge. Certainly the audience left them euphoric, still energetic or sleepy, and irresponsibly took the wheel and drove home after hours of repetitive and euphoric music and Robert Miles intended to calm the moods in the end of his sets, almost like bringing a sensation of relaxation and calm after all the excesses. Certainly the awareness of the importance of life belongs to everyone, but it is almost like following the slogan that for any problem if we all contribute we can create solutions, in fact the measure was even approved by the Italian authorities.
After five albums we then say a see you soon  and a THANK YOU for all the piano melodies, the mix with jazz, progressive house and chillout that has provided us so many unique moments on dance floors, long car trips and outdoor parties. Music makes us dream, and as Miles wrote one day, the world moves quickly and therefore, perhaps, we should all achieve our dreams, fight for them and celebrate life.
R.I.P. Robert Miles!

Sade, dis-moi; Sade, donne-moi
Sade, tell me; Sade, give me

We all have desires, desires to get a new job, to be wealthier, and more than the ones that are instigated, there are always those which (for a puritan vision)are too sinful for this world.
Sadness (Part 1) by Enigma (5 million singles sold) mixes religious chants, the sensual vocals by German singer Sandra, who had Maria Magdalena in the charts in the 80's with a male voice that questions the desires of Marquis de Sade. Those are desires mingled in a song that reached number one for 5 weeks on the Eurochart and in more than 24 countries (UK and USA, for example) and in some of them the title was changed to Sadness (Part 1), removing, in that way, the sin that this single could contain  giving to it more melancholy than responses to carnal desires.
In this way, as in the song, we can always question our most intimate desires, we can even mix the purest things we have in us without forgetting what’s on the other side of the mirror, that pleasure that can be given by the other, that one when two bodies come together and share the most intimate things they have. Here the name of the Marquis is replaced by yours, because the questions that are asked him can well be answered by you. In fact,  in this mixture of flute sounds and beats you may well meditate on to what extend you are closed by conventions and obsolete or limited traditions.
In short, it is not only Sadeness that is uptodate 27 years later, but also the album MCMXC which is more than a search through a medieval world, full of forest sounds, of fetters that hold the hands and the minds and of people who want to find unique and liberating answers to their most intimate questions. To start this journey, through the video, we have the Principles of Lust, the trilogy in which Sadeness is part of, because sinning never harmed anyone!

Where were you when the lights went out?

After long night outs with friends, there is always this question for the next day: Where were you when the lights went out? Of course there are serious responses or strange ones like behind the curtain of the disco, crawling in the middle of the dance floor, kissing someone (who I do not remember) or drinking shots on the counter.... but after all where were you when the lights went out in 2003?
Freaks are from the UK and  released one of the best-known tech house anthems ever, that wouldn’t stop being played  on the radios (as in Nova Era – Portuguese Radio) and more than being an anthem with Stella Attar's voice to end of the night, it was almost like an opening hymn to any dancefloor, especially the hypnotic Tiefschwarz’s dub. Like The Creeps (# 9 on UK Charts), it was taken from the album The Man Who Lived Underground, a CD that explores house and tech house, and was reissued a few years later in 2011 (video), with remixes that also embraced dubstep.
That's why today you can be that friend who disappears in the middle of the night, between strob lights and streamers that fall from the crystal ball to have a curious story to tell ... or else, keep it a secret!

#throwbackthursday at TOM'S DINER

Afternoons spent at the cafés studying, watching the time go by, reading or listening to music. In those lonely moments, we saw the tables around us, lit a cigarette, and felt the first taste of coffee. We have our desk with our mobile phones, a book and the headphones that we are about to use ... however, some couples enter, some happy, others abandoned to their long-term relationship. The old man writes in his tablet some work e-mails, two guys wearing black suits discuss the news, while the 20-year-old girl speaks very loudly on the  phone ... therefore we have in a single place, a world of experiences, hearts, loves and lives.
It is in this blend of lives intertwined in a cafe that lies the beauty of simplicity in the lyrics of Tom's Diner that we can nicely replace Tom to whatever we go everyday to have our breakfast. Originally released by Suzanne Vega in 1982 it is the opening theme of the album Solitude Standing (1987), which included the acclaimed single, although with a very sad story, Luka. Curious fact about Tom's Diner is that it was remixed in its own style by the British duo DNA who released  the single without Vega's permission, as it was common in the late 1980s, as it was quite common to use samples without the authour's permission, in order to offer well-known songs , but more appropriate for the culture of the club that has started, for example Black Box with Ride on Time, who sampled Lolleatta's Holloway voice. After getting into an agreement, and with Vega's consent, the single arrives at number 2 of the UK Singles Chart, having already been used by Giorgio Moroder with Britney Spears, Timbaland and even the singer r'n'b Aaliyah with Hot Like Fire and by the Portuguese David Carreira and Bingo Players on  Spinnin 'Records.
To sum up, we can observe and learn from others around at ______ (fill in with your favorite place). Maybe we are about ot be inspired by the attitudes of others or continue to believe that we are on the right path.
