Lou Ottens (1926-2021), faleceu esta semana. O inventor da cassete é culpado pelo esbanjar de mesadas em fitas cheias de música alegre, triste, com mais ou menos qualidade (se olharmos para essas edições aos olhos de hoje), que serviram para abrilhantar as festas de garagem, as caminhadas com o nosso walkman, as viagens longas até ao Algarve e, mais que isso, levou gerações a perderem horas infindáveis a gravar aquelas MixTapes especialmente concebidas para os nossos amigos. Depois, com todo aquele orgulho visível nos nossos olhos, entregávamos a playlist escrita à mão e, com um grande sorriso, dizíamos: Gravei a pensar em ti!
Anos volvidos, e saudosismos à parte, o Lado A sempre se sobrepôs ao Lado B destas compilações. Todos sabemos que as melhores canções (ou aquelas que gostamos mais) estão logo no início da fita. Talvez por isso, quando construímos uma compilação, a nossa criatividade, bom gosto, esforço e empenho se vão atenuando ao longo da longa fita de 30 minutos ... às vezes queremos apenas preencher aqueles minutos finais só para, imagine-se, não ficarmos com a sensação de que nada fizemos ou dissémos...é para isso que serve o Lado B?
Ainda continuamos a gravar histórias em fitas que se vão partindo, colando e, por vezes, deteorando com o tempo, mas como estamos no melhor dia da semana, não podemos terminar como se estivéssemos com as pilhas Duracell no fim e a nossa festa a terminar...Afinal de contas, podemos sempre fazer rewind e gravar por cima, não é verdade? Uma coisa é certa, não podemos é estar em pause até que aquela música que nos enche o coração passe na rádio para a gravarmos religiosamente ... Levanta-te, escolhe a tua bebida favorita e press play ... hoje vais viajar no tempo a sorrir!

Lou Ottens (1926-2021), passed away this week. The inventor of the cassette is to blame for the waste of pocket money on tapes full of happy or sad music, with more or less quality (if we look at these editions in the eyes of today), which were used to brighten up garage parties, walks with our walkman, long trips to the Algarve and, above that, it led us losing endless hours recording those MixTapes specially for our friends. Then, with all that pride visible in our eyes, we handed out a handwritten playlist and, with a big smile, we said: I recorded this tape thinking about you!
Years later, and nostalgia aside, Side A has always overlapped Side B of these compilations. We all know that the best songs (or the ones we like the most) are right at the beginning of the tape. Maybe that's why, when we build a compilation, our creativity, good taste, effort and commitment are attenuated over the long 30-minute tape ... sometimes we just want to fill those final minutes just to, imagine, not to get the feeling that we didn't do or say anything ... is that what Side B is for?
We still continue to record stories on tapes that break, glue back together and sometimes degrade over time, but as we are on the best day of the week, we cannot end as if we were with the Duracell batteries at the end and our party ending ... After all, we can always rewind and record all over again, right? One thing is for sure, we cannot be on pause until that song that fills our hearts is played on the radio for us to record it religiously ... Get up, choose your favorite drink and press play ... today you will travel back in time smiling!
