(Portuguese) Apesar da maioria das suas produções aparecerem em editoras de Chicago, o produtor/DJ Austin Bascom aka A:Xus é de Toronto. Misturando uma variedade de sons da club scene do Canada, Bascom foi influenciado não só pelo house e techno, mas também pelo electro, soul, acid jazz e hip-hop. Começou a sua carreira editando em 1995 algum do seu material e afirmou a sua reputação em duas das mais acarinhadas editoras de Chicago, a Guidance e a 83 West. Em 1999 edita a sua primeira produção como A:Xus, o atmosférico samba-house single denominado Baghdad Cafe (Callin' U), que se tornou num pequeno presente para os DJ e fans da música. No início de 2000 lança o seu álbum Soundtrack For Life.
Apesar de estar mais perto do som house e do acid jazz do final dos anos 90, a fusão de Bascom de produção impecável, tematicamente complexa, e musicalmente diversa, coloca-o como um percurso do techno de Detroit. Como tal surge o jazz-funk single Baghdad Cafe (Callin' U), o eléctrico My Planet Rocks. e Syncronicity, e o introspectivo Pluto. Os temas com vocais, com contribuições de Naomi N’Sembi e Rosina, estão bem separados e são algo a ter em atenção. Forte, com produção inteligente e hábil e uma variedade musical que nunca soa forçada dá ao álbum Soundtrack For Life uma base sólida que faz aumentar a atenção para ele, mesmo depois de ouvido repetidas vezes.

Though most of his productions have appeared on Chicago labels, producer/DJ Austin Bascom aka A:Xus is actually based in Toronto. Soaking up a variety of sounds in Canada's metropolitan club scene, Bascom was influenced by not only house and techno but electro, soul, acid jazz, and hip-hop. He began releasing his material in 1995, and created a reputation for lush underground house with club favourites (recorded as Abacus) for two of Chicago's best-loved dance labels, Guidance and 83 West. In 1999, his first A:xus production, the atmospheric samba-house cut Baghdad Cafe (Callin' U) became yet another prize for DJs and club fans alike. In early 2000, the full-length Soundtrack for Life was released.
Though he's closest in sound to house and the more danceable end of '90s acid jazz, Bascom's fusion of the impeccably produced, the thematically complex, and the musically diverse also places him as an inheritor of Detroit techno. As such are the links to a jazz-funk-lite number like Baghdad Cafe (Callin' U) the electro tributes My Planet Rocks and Synchronicity and the interstellar techno-jazz meditation Pluto. The vocal tracks, with contributions from Naomi N'Sembi and Rosina, are well-spaced and are something to pay attention to. Strong, clever production skills and a feel for musical variety that never sounds forced gives Soundtrack for Life a solid base that extends its attraction beyond repeated listenings.
