2a feira ... situation: critical!

by perplex3r, em 15.03.21

'Cause you're free
To do what you want to do
You've got to live your life
Do what you want to do

English/Inglês

Situation: Critical is that moment when hope seems exhausted, in a mixture of tiredness and resignation. As we have been feeling throughout the cold months of 2021. With the phrase After all this time, you think somebody might of learned their lesson the album is opened, almost as if it were a sacred scripture, reminding us that many times our lessons were of no use and, unnecessarily, we tried to experience moments of suffering that do nothing but bring feelings of déjà vú.

Found a Cure merges with the relentless pursuit of New Kind of Medicine; let us say that we often have to seek the best experiences from the past to be the basis of internal progress that leads us to something new and much, much more joyful. Like the situation that the world nowadays experiences, we have all had our quarantine periods, in which our hearts were closed, only going out at specific times and retreated into the room, under the gloom. After that, and without the help of Artificial Intelligence, he looked for the necessary antibodies to no longer have toxic connections.

Ultra Naté reached stardom in 1998 (# 17 UK Album Charts) with an album that could very well be a Maya prophecy of our hearts or, years later, of the world. Throughout 10 original tracks, we managed to have a mix of disco, dance, pop, garage house and vocal house, with calmer moments but full of beats that would brighten up any evening party. After all, we have Master At Work, Mood II Swing and D-Influence pills that give us the immunity we need to continue with our (love) stories, at least, until the next overwhelming passion.

That is why, and not only, it is possible to understand why Free became an anthem of a generation that wanted to free itself from emotional shackles and handcuffs that blamed the culture of electronic music ... four walls of your prison room.

But,we are less further to sing, under a mirror ball at 4 in the morning:

'Cause you're free
To do what you want to do
You've got to live your life
Do what you want to do

The Rhythm Of The Night.

On May 13, in Portugal, while some longed for the Eurovision Song Contest, were feeling nervous about football matches and were waiting for the Pope's message in Fatima,in Madrid, more than 16,000 pilgrims were traveling through time.
At 6pm the doors of the arena opened for the deejays Jumper Brothers to set the tone for more than 6 hours of partying with Show Me Love (Robin S), Free (Ultra Naté), Beachball (Nalin & Kane) culminating with the countdown to the beginning of Love The 90s with the Spanish OBK. There could not be a time tunnel as perfect as this, where we had the opportunity to enter the Guinness Book of Records with Whigfield's Saturday Night, in a place where everyone danced the typical choreography of the summer of '94. Jenny Berggren, Ace Of Base, showed us, with Beautiful Life, that over 20 years later life continues to be beautiful and joyful and that everyone finally understood the story of All That She Wants and saw The Sign, which explained the more 23 million albums sold from the multi-platinum album Happy Nation in 93/94 (also in the Guinness Book Of Records).
Between europop and eurodance, when we heard Diggy Boog Diggy Diggy Boom Diggy Bang we felt we were listening to the compilation DanceMania, in which Ice Mc shone with his typical Italo-disco sound. Australian Tina Cousins brought back memories with Pray and Mysterious Times, her great collaboration with German Sash !, and the Brazilian Corona starred in one of the funniest moments when she admitted to be speaking "portuñol" (mixture of portuguese and spanish), mixing her music with Boom Boom Boom of Outhere Brothers and to have one of the biggest interactions with the audience with the sound of The Rhythm Of The Night. Between the performances of the guest groups, there was time for the duo of deejays, with the help of fire, lasers, colorful screens and rain of confetti, to play  songs that filled the dance floors during the decade with Haddaway (What Is Love ), Gala (Let a Boy Cry), Faithless (Insomnia) and Kadoc (The Night Train), pick up Nirvana and Bon Jovi from the playlist and pay homage to Robert Miles, making it a non-stop party! Finally, the eurodance / euro rap duos Snap! made many feet jump with Penny Ford's powerful voice in The Power and with the classic Rhythm Is a Dancer, in addition to rapper Ya Kid K, Technotronic's original voice that set the crowd singing all in one voice Pump Up The Jam and the Dutch 2 Unlimited who showed that the 90's generation has no limit to the joy they were feeling while traveling listening to No Limit and Twilight Zone.
In short, if you ask if it is worth this trip, we conclude with a big smile that YES! This Time Machine is able to put an entire generation nostalgic about a recent decade, in which with so much evolution, still knows the connection between a pencil and a cassette, remembers what it was to make a mixtape with love and, above all, knows has paved the way for a culture of pop and dance music that is now felt all over the world. What do we do now? We watch the best moments and count the days that are missing for the next trips! More videos on Youtube, Sapo Videos and photos on Facebook and Instagram of the blog!

#throwbackthursday with some Kandi!

by perplex3r, em 30.03.17

disco heaven vinil 2.jpg

Some very sweet Kandi(es) for this Thursday. Here at home, we (re)discovered one of the vinyl editions of a compilation from the label Hed Kandi, also a usual presence in this blog, mainly in the summer. Disco Heaven 02.02 is the soundtrack to our heaven, in which disco is mixed with the dance beats and with the so-called disco-house,featured on the film Studio 54, filled with choruses and voices from Ultra Naté, Shelley Nelson, Amber and the unmistakable Tunde (Lighthouse Family). A total of 8 tracks  in extended versions fill this edition in vinyl and are nothing more, nothing less, than a sample to the compilation edited in CD.
To make this journey through the clouds even more memorable, we have remixes by the Swedish Stonebridge for DaYeene's And It Hurs, by the New Yorker Kenny Dope for Believe by Nathan Haines and by the Frenchman François Kervokian for High by the Lighthouse Family, who also had remixed Moloko's delicious and epic Forever More.
Basically, to enjoy this double edition of the LP to the max, just prepare a fresh drink, full of mint and taste of gin or martini, lift the needle and put  it on the first track. After that, fill the porch with friends, let the sun shine and, since tomorrow is Friday, make a toast to the weekend. Cheers!

DJ Vibe and Rui Da Silva, both pioneers in the electronic scene in this small country aka Portugal, are coming back together in one of this years’ biggest music events , Rock in Rio in Lisbon (though the fact that being back together sharing a turning table is, just that, an event that will be seen as memorable).

Underground Sound Of Lisbon paved the way in the 90s for the Portuguese electronic productions, with a single supported by Danny Tenaglia and which is nowadays an icon on the dancefloor: So Get Up! There is also Dance With Me and Music So Good, other danceable tracks which have made loads of feet moving during those long summers of the decade.

We are in 2014, and after DJ Vibe and Rui da Silva have followed different paths, both have achieved success in the American and British charts … do you still remember Touch Me?

Therefore, gather some pocket money because this reunion will be one of the best Eletronic moments of the Year.

This would have just been so good if we needn’t to add the cherry on the top of the cake to make it perfect: today, all common mortals have access to Rui da Silva’s latest single, New Lover. Yes, this might be our lover for the next weekend. An electronically stimulating piece, New Lover finds in 2014 new lovers and makes all the passionate fans fall in love again with this Dj’s productions.

After all of this, do you still think Mondays are full of bad news?

Para além disso, Dance With Me e Music So Good serão outros temas dançáveis que colocaram muitos pés a mexer nos longos verões daquela década.

Ultra Naté with an Automatic Dance Beat!

by perplex3r, em 18.05.08

(English/Inglês)

There are always some artists that seem to be forgotten for that mess that one listens in some clubs and radios. Ultra Naté is one of these cases, although she has been reaching nº1 in the US Hot Dance Play Charts with perfect tunes to fill the dancefloor in a crowded club. With singles like the nº1 single Free, Desire, Love’s The Only Drug and Automatic, one cannot understand why she is not musically recognized here in Portugal, like it happens with Roisin Murphy.
Enjoying a musical career that has started in 1991, Ultra Naté continues to have a great voice full of energy that combines perfectly with the power of her house music, sometimes influenced by soul and r’n’b, proving (once again) that dance music is more than just synthesisers.
To sum up, from her latest album Grime, Silk & Thunder (2007) was released the single Automatic , a Pointer Sisters cover, and it proves that age ain’t nothing but a number and if not for the video itself, it can also provoke a great moment of an unprecedented musical energy.
