doves & Mother's Day

by perplex3r, em 08.05.17

I used to follow you, follow you for days
I slept beside you, just shadows away
I watched you by the fire, your hands was all aglow
Under the spell of a circle, I let my face show

You spent the day giving your mother treats with gifts and smiles during the long Sunday afternoon. You know there's no one like her, that person who annoys you when you're 17 and you arrive a little bit after 3 and you told her you were coming home around one. That special person who pretends she does not see you going to bed dizzy (because you drank too much at Queima das Fitas  – special week of party for Portuguese University Students) and it's 9 in the morning and you have to recover energy for later. But more importantly, a mother who is able to  take out her last pound to offer you an ice cream, who is able to not buy what she likes just to offer you a toy and knows that when you are sad, your favourite dessert will cheer you up.
Mother's Protect is a bit of this, if we want to circumscribe the song to that day, which speaks of love, the greater expression of a mother’s love for her child. Taken from the first album by the duo Niki & The Dove, from Sweden, who have in Instinct a mix of indietronica, synthpop and futurepop. Already nominated by the BBC for Sound of 2012, they have already released last year a second album entitled Everyone's Heart is Broken Now. We prefer to listen to the Goldroom Remix, which resembles bands like MGMT, for example, and which prolongs a Monday afternoon at the seaside with martinis on the table.
Much more than offering music, flowers, gifts ... nothing is as pure and simple as a THANK YOU every day for having, or have had, a mother who has turned you unique and special, who is the best influence one can have.
(And to enjoy this sound ... you can download this fantastic track for free!)

Calvin Harris...is not alone!

by perplex3r, em 11.05.09

Talvez, se a resposta a “Can you stay up for the weekend” for positiva…e porque não será?!

(English/Inglês)

In 2007 Calvin Harris proudly announced I Created Disco and all the skeptical people surrendered to his creative capacity of mixing late 80’s beats with today’s electronic sounds. That is the reason why he collaborated with Kylie Minogue, Sophie Ellis Bextor and remixed, among other, Ting Tings, Kaiser Chiefs and All Saints.
Now, in 2009, he surprises all of us with I’m Not Alone, the latest single that got into the number 1 position in the UK Singles Charts and is the introduction to his new (unreleased) album. I’m Not Alone proves that the essence of the electronic music can be fun and, at the same time, there are some that consider this single as a turn back into the late 90’s. However this production is not dated as it not only has the great original versions but also fabulous remixes from Tiesto, Deadmau5 and Hervé.
Will we know what it is to be alone? Maybe, if the answer to question “Can you stay up for the weekend” is negative. It is only Monday today so, have fun with the Frankestein(ish) video and think about your company for the weekend in a few days.

Polarkreis 18 ... are we Allein?

by perplex3r, em 21.01.09

Germany is the land of the bratwurst with mustard, the Love Parade and Polarkreis 18. Coming from Dresden, the group reached a new level with the new album The Colour of Snow and the single Allein Allein (which means alone), placing it at the nº1 position of the charts of Angela Merkel’s Land.
Allein Allein is a mixture of electronic with acoustic instruments, which go along with fascinating lyrics about loneliness (Wir Sind Allein). However, this is not a depressing track, as it is perfect to sing-a-long in the car when we drive alone without destination, but knowing that in that day and in that route we are sure that “the time as come for us to love”.  One should also point out Under This Big Moon and Tourist, calm feelings and introspective songs, The Colour of Snow, perfect 80’s revivalist song and Happy Go Lucky, that contains a story so beautiful to be translated into words.
To sum up, a combination of pop, electronic sounds and guitars lead to great emotional moments and make Polarkreis 18 a must have for 2009!
